Who We Are
About Us
Reed Island Springs Baptist Church was organized on Friday, December 11, 1931.
Present that winter night to undertake the start of this church were nine charter members, two men and seven women. Also present were five other Christians who were received into the body of the church that night. The first pastor of the church was Rev. Frank D. Roach of Axton, Virginia. Since the winter of 1931, many things in this world have changed. The fortunate thing for Christians to remember is that things not of this world have remained the same. Sin is still sin and salvation is still available for the asking. God has not changed, nor will He.
Reed Island Springs Baptist Church exists to glorify God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, by helping each individual and family grow in fervent love for God, love for one another and for those without Christ, both locally, regionally & globally. We seek to accomplish this through the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, discipleship, evangelism and through the careful teaching and expositional preaching of obedience to God’s Word of Truth.One of our main goals is that our church families would be a lighthouse to the nearby community.
Our Pastor
Pastor Shannon Hicks and his lovely wife Carolyn (Bumble Bee)
Pastor Shannon and his wife Carolyn or as she is better known Bumblebee have been married for 30 years. They have 5 sons, 3 of which are preachers of the gospel. 4 daughter in laws and 5 grandchildren 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. They have ministered together all these years together first in the youth ministry, then in the Pastorate. God has blessed them with a loving and supportive and Crazy family. They give God all the Honor,Glory, and Praise for the blessings and struggles in life. Pastor Shannon's favorite verses are
(Col 1:16) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
(Col 1:17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
(Col 1:18) And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
What We Believe
Our Beliefs
We Believe:
- The Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God, authoritative for faith, and completely sufficient for life and godliness in the Person of Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter 1:19-21).
- The one true God eternally exists in Three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19).
- We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ was virgin born (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23, 25; Luke 1:26-35); that He was God incarnate (John 1:1, 14)
- Jesus Christ offered Himself as our Substitute on the cross (1 Peter 2:24) and His shed blood paid the penalty for our sin (Romans 3:21-26; 2 Cor. 5:21).
- Our Lord Jesus Christ was bodily resurrected (1 Corinthians 15:4) and that His return is imminent (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).
- The Gospel is the only means by which God the Father saves sinners thru Jesus Christ and we must proclaim that message to a dying world (Romans 1:16-17; Romans 10:14-17).
- Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ Jesus alone (Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Acts 4:12; 1 Tim. 2:5).
- All who receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior by faith are declared righteous by God on the basis of Jesus’ shed blood and receive eternal life as a free gift (Romans 3:24; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9).
- All believers are to walk by the Spirit, not the flesh, performing good deeds which glorify Christ (Galatians 5:16-26; Ephesians 2:10).
- Discipleship is critical to the growth and building up of the Body of Christ, and is most effective when conducted in small groups or one-on-one (2 Tim. 2:2).
- Evangelism is commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ to reach a lost world (Matt. 28:18-20).
